The roots of our nursery extend back to the early 1900s. Originally the family farm was used by Walt and Annie Gossett to grow vegetables and tobacco. These farm products were taken to market in Winston Salem by horse and wagon, leaving at sunrise and returning the next day. In 1943, son Ralph Gossett served in the army as a military policeman during WWII. While in Germany, he saw the many vineyards, gardens, and arboretums there, some of which date back centuries. After his return to Deep River, he cultivated the idea of turning the old family farm into a nursery. By the early 50s, he and wife, Clara Mae, started their nursery with little more than a dream and sweat equity. Over the years, the nursery grew along with their family. Sons Philip and Keith grew up among the trees and shrubs, eventually becoming the owners in the late '70s. Today we, along with longtime dedicated employees, carry on what Ralph and Clara "planted" so many years ago.
